 Filming Making Course

Calling all film and video enthusiasts!

SADeaf is proud to provide an opportunity for 10 Deaf participants to venture into the Film Making Industry!

SADeaf will soon be launching the first film-making course for the deaf. This is in collaboration with our project partner, Sinema Academy of Motion Pictures Limited, (SAMP).

Our objectives are :-

  • To equip students with adequate film-making "know-how" through theory and practical lessons.

  • To provide deaf people with an opportunity to venture into film-making.

  • To develop creativity among the participants, enabling them to express their thoughts and emotions through the medium of film.

  • To showcase the abilities and potential of the deaf to the general public.

  • To mentor the students in making films, which will be showcased at the International Day of the Deaf (IDD) in October 2010.

This film making course will be conducted at the Sinema Old School,11 B Mt Sophia #B1-12, Singapore 228466.

There will be 10 sessions, and the duration of each session is 3 hours. Assisting the participants throughout the course will be 2 interpreters and 2 deaf facilitators who will work closely with the SAMP instructors. These SAMP instructors are specially chosen for their prior working experience on both local and overseas films, including "881", "Eating Air", "Lucky 7", "The Days" and "Mr & Mrs Smith". The course is expected to start in late February 2010 and details will be announced shortly.

The course curriculum includes finding a story-line, pre-production, production, post-production and critique session. At the end of the 10 weeks' course, students will produce a short film of 5 - 10 minutes in duration. Such a film will aim to uncover issues that deaf people face in everyday life. On completion of the course, all participants will receive a certificate of participation.

The actual cost for this course is S$695.50. SADeaf is now actively seeking sponsorships for all participants. Upon securing such sponsorships, the course will be heavily subsidized and each participant shall only have to pay S$250.

To register and participate in this course, you must be at least 16 years old. Please fill in the registration form ( as attached - Make your First Short Film registration form ) and send or fax the completed form to the Singapore Association for the Deaf, 227 Mountbatten Road Singapore 379998 (Fax no: 63457706) or email to James Ong at eopvc@sadeaf.org.sg.
