Does the
Association conduct Sign Language courses for
ordinary members of the public?
Yes. All Sign Language courses conducted by the
Association are catered to ordinary members of
the public. Most of our students are hearing,
but we also accept deaf students into our Sign
Language courses.

When is your
next scheduled class?
The next available class is on the schedule.
However if the class you sign up for is
under-subscribed, students will be advised
to transfer to the class that will open,
whichever it may be.

I learned Sign Language with my
church/YMCA/at a community Centre. Can I
proceed to your Beginners' Stage
2/3/Intermediate/Advanced Level?
Yes you can, but you will have to sit
for an entrance examinations to
determine your competency level. The
examination fee is $100 per sitting.

Do you have sign language lessons for
hearing children below the age of 16?
For Primary and Secondary school students,
we would advise the schools / ECA
teachers to approach us so that we
can arrange special programmes
tailored to your needs.

If I missed the Beginners' Class
this time round, when would be the next?
We have new Beginners' Stage 1
classes every 2 months. The next
intake will be in August
if you missed the June
registration.

Are there tests/exams after
each stage/level?
Yes. After each stage, there
will be a test. After each
level, there will be an
examination.

What if I failed the
test/exam?
If you failed the
test/exam, you could have
to re-take it the
following week. If you
failed in your second
attempt,
you would have to repeat
the course.

Do I get
a certificate on
completion of the
course?
Yes. You would get a
certificate after
you have
successfully
completed Beginners
Stage 3,
Intermediate Stage 2
or Advanced Stage 2.
After each stage,
you would be given a test
result slip.

How many stages
are there altogether?
Seven. The
Beginners' Level
is made up of 3
stages. The
Intermediate
Level is made up
of 2 Stages, and
the Advanced
Level is made up
of 2 stages. If
you take the
stages
progressively,
the entire Sign
Language
Communication
Course would last
about one full
year.

duration for
each stage?
Each stage
lasts 6
weeks, 3
hours a
week. There
is a 2-week
break
between each
stage.

completed my Basic 2 under the old system.
Do I have to take the Beginners' Stage 3 course to
be
eligible
for Intermediate Stage 1?
No. The
Basic 2
under
the old
system
is
equivalent
to the
Beginners'
Stage 3
of the
new
system.
You can
proceed
to
the
Intermediate
Stage 1,
but you
would
first
have to
attempt
the
entrance
exam.

Intermediate
course
together
with
payment,

have completed my Intermediate Level Course
under the old system. Do I have to take
the Intermediate Stage 2 course to be eligible for Advanced Stage 1?
No. The Intermediate Level Course under the old system is equivalent to the Intermediate Stages 1 & 2 of the new system. You can proceed to the Advanced Stage 1, but you would first have to attempt the entrance exam.

When is the next entrance exam for Advanced Stage 1?
When you register for the Advanced course together with payment, you would automatically be registered for the entrance exam. The Association would inform you of the exam dates accordingly.

If I failed the
entrance exam, what would happen?
You would have to retake the exam until you pass. Only after you pass will you be able to proceed with the next stage or level. The dates of the re-exam will be made known to you if you failed your exam.
