The Association has 3 full-time Sign Language Interpreters. Should they not be available for interpreting assignments, the Interpretation Team will provide one from the pool of part-time interpreters.

The rates for the service are as follows:

Terms and Conditions:
 
  1. Requests for interpretation services should be made on a standard form available at the SADeaf.
  2. Clients are advised to make their request for an interpreter at least one week in advance to ensure the availability of an interpreter.
  3. Clients should also inform the Association for the preferred sign system and/or spoken language(s) used by the Deaf and/or Hearing client(s) where possible.
  4. Interpreters are not obligated to wait for more than an hour (60 minutes) for the client upon arrival at the assignment location. If the client did not turn up, the minimum interpretation charge to the Association would still be payable.
  5. Cancellation of service must be done at least 1 working day before the assignment.
  6. If an appointment is cancelled less than 1 working day in advance, but more than 2 hours before the appointment time, a $10 late cancellation fee is payable to the Association. If cancellation is received less than 2 hours before the appointment time, the minimum interpretation charge to the Association is payable.
  7. The Association defines "client" as any person who is the direct employer of the service, or the person(s) for whom the service is employed. Interpreters are not obligated to answer to requests for interpretation by any other persons who do not fit the above definition.
  8. The Association reserves the right to refuse an assignment/appointment without assigning any reason or explanation.
  9. The Association also reserves the right to make changes to the term and conditions, and to the interpretation charges.
